Please Help Find this Cat
Jake is a black male cat with a little bit of white on his neck, age 5/6 years old and he has gone missing from Gin Pit Village in Astley. He was last seen on 13th Oct 2011. It is very unusual for Jake to disappear and his owners fear he may have jumped into a car. Jake is chipped and neutered. Anyone who think they may have seen Jake please ring 07866 905779

In the car journey on the way home from spending the afternoon at Todmordens Incredible Edible tour, there was a atmosphere of inspiration while we chatted about the things we had seen. Although the whole project is not suited to our situation we have certainly seen a great idea working really well. All over the town there were planters, raised beds and street corner gardens packed full of fruit trees, edible flowers, herbs and Veg. You could feel a huge sense of pride and community spirit in the town. I think the big thing was basically anyone could use and take the produce grown in all the beds, and this seems a great concept that in areas of our gardens would be a great thing. We will be seeing what will work well for us. I am sure we ill have another visit to get more info and see how there projects come along, along with seeing if we can arrange a site visit from a few of there members to get some views of our projects.
We hope we can move forward and possibly become a Incredible Edible Ginpit Village, Please have a look at there site.

Well its all over for Fete 2011. We would like to thank all the crew, and staff and cadets who makes our fete happen. Thanks to the knights in battle for the shows and the kitchen demo. (unfortunately due to last minuet illness there was not the living village we apologize if you came to see this.) Thanks to all the stall holders and the Dogs who put on a great agility show. We didn’t have the best weather day but it didn’t rain all day! All in all we hope you all had a good day. Now is our time to reflect on the day and how we can improve this next year.
Photos are on the way, if you have any please send them in!

Hi Simon, Tony and the rest of the crew.
Just a word to say how much we all enjoyed the day. Dogs are all sleeping peacefully now, absolutely shattered. Your organisation and preparation for the day are to be commended, well done. I have done displays at a few now and today has got to be the best funday/fete we have done. Special thanks to all the runners who helped out, especially the two lads who helped us set up each time. Hope you can pass that on to them. If you would like us to appear in the future don’t hesitate to contact me, it will be a pleasure.
Many thanks again

We’re rolling on with the community gardens, starting by using some recycled tyres that we’re turning into raised beds. Working in partnership, the GPRA and the Forestry Commission have cleaned up 28 illegally fly-tipped tyres, saving the Forestry Commision a large sum of money that they would’ve otherwise had to spend inorder to dispose of the tyres.
The gardens are being created in land allocated to the GPRA in a land-share agreement with the Forestry Commision. The plans so far include herb and vegetable planting along with a fruit orchard, fruit bushes, wild flower meadow and even a pond! Come along to the next GPRA meeting if you’re interested in getting involved

KEEN photographer and nature lover Gary Reynolds is holding an exhibition showing ‘Secret Leigh’.
Images ranging from a blue butterfly to a kestrel are now on display at the Derby Room above Leigh Library depicting the wealth of wildlife on Leigh’s doorstep.
“I particularly want to highlight what wildlife will be lost if the Leigh guided busway goes ahead because 70 per cent of the photos were taken from the proposed route along the former railway line,” said Gary
The exhibition runs until May 1, Monday-Friday 10-6 and Saturday 9.30-3.30. Access is sometimes limited so ring 01942 404469 first if making a special visit
